Some cities surprisingly grow on me when I least expect it, and Cartagena was one of them. When we booked our tickets to Cartagena, Colombia, we weren't sure what to expect. Our main reason for visiting this for port city was to visit with friends who were on a Caribbean cruise and were stopping in Cartagena for the day. Unfortunately, Colombia's reputation is still poor in many people's minds and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a bit worried. But Cartagena was anything but the scary and dangerous place the American media portrays of Colombia.
Cartagena was bursting with color, charm and it had a spirited vibe that was felt as soon as you stepped foot inside the historic walls. Our five day trip was full of delicious street food, colorful streets, and a perfect blend of the old and new.
